Teams are formed at the end of the current season, and then practice throughout the winter and spring for the next year. Teams play in leagues such as Little League Select, Southtowns Travel, Clarence Travel League, and Boys of Summer. OPLL travel teams also compete in both local and out of town tournaments such as the Cal Ripken Experience and the tournament at
Differences between Travel and House
Travel teams are more competitive by nature, and require a bigger commitment, both of time and resources, than house teams. Players must try out for teams and placement on a travel team is not guaranteed. Players/Parents may select a coaching preference during the tryouts from available coaching candidates. Playing time and positions are determined by the coaching staff. All costs of operating the team, including uniforms, equipment, entry fees, etc, are the sole responsibility of the team. Each coach is free to enter what leagues and tournaments he chooses.
